Discussion of a national "Christians Shut the F*ck Up," day. About its purpose and criteria to select a day.
We are not proposing a "Shut the F up Today." It is to propose what Christians need to start doing.

What led me to think of this?

I am constantly as part of my local research and reporting on homophobia in Dallas, Texas, reading the arrogant pronouncements of local Evangelical Christians. They assume that everyone should listen and everyone should agree with them if they can somehow, someway get Jesus involved.
They are:
Self-righteous.
Self-indulgent
Self-serving
Self-aggrandizing
Their conceit, vanity, arrogance, and stupidity knows no bounds. As long as they mention Jesus, their brain short ciruits. They are on fentanyl Jesus. They endlessly try to control everyone.
They are obnoxious.
Also, there is a Gay Tiktok theme that was going around, where some straight person was going to express their opinion about something which the Gay person just wasn’t going to listen to, and the TikTok would end up with “Shut the fuck up.”
So I am reading really atrocious Christian garbage and I think, “Christians Shut the Fuck Up!” I posted it on the Facebook group Gay Atheist Action on April 10th.
Yesterday on April 17th, I was reading and documenting a local Gay conversion group and the local church working with them. After reading about the destruction of many Gay lives, I just had the feeling, of anger, “Christians Shut the Fuck Up.”
I am also sensing that the general public is really fed up with the Christians.
This morning I decided to share it to all the athiest Facebook groups to get the project started and get suggestions for the day. So I did.
Wow! Wow! It seems I am not the only person feeling this way.
The Project Proposal
The scientists came up with Darwin Day to fight back against Creationists and their anti-evolution nonsense. It is fairly effective. It keeps the issue of fighting back against the Creationists, (Evangelical Christians), before the public and gives a chance to educate the public on evolution and also the Creationist threat.
There is Pie Day, for mathematicians. I will see a lot of posts every March 14th, about it. Mathematicians found a way to get people interested in math.
I wanted a, “Christian shut the fuck up day,” for two reasons.
I am really fed up with them and I want them to know just how much people are just really fed up with their obnoxious behavior.
I want to open a discussion on how obnoxious and disordered Christian behavior is.
It would be a day in which we could raise the issues about their behavior and also engage the general public in expressing their anger over Christian arrogance. I suspected that there might be a lot.
I wondered if it shouldn’t be “Evangelical Christians shut the fuck up,” but I decided that is too lengthy, I don’t want to get into the study of denominations and coming up with a statement that is 30, 40, 50 words or more, and frankly, I am just fed up with Christians in general. The others may not be doing what Evangelical Christians do, but they tend to think they should be running the world. More importantly they tend to not do anything to stop the nastier varieties of Christianity. They have happy thoughts, but they aren’t in the trenches.
If the mainline Christians ever decided to have a “Southern Baptists shut the fuck up! day. then I might think about it, but in the end they are Christians and wouldn’t do this.
There are some recent developments which have made me realize that the Christian opposition to Christian nationalism has problems, but I want to move this discussion forward and not get into that.
So what days did you think of?
I thought of several days that might be useful.
The first day I thought of was the day, Giordano Bruno, the cosmologist, was burnt at the stake by the Inquisition, Feb. 17, 1600. He wasn’t an atheist, but his burning at the stake is a good example of the pathology of Christianity historically. A broad spectrum of people think this was a terrible event in history, besides atheists.

I thought of the notorious Scopes Trials and perhaps the day John Scopes was convicted of teaching evolution could be done. the Plus is that it is more contemporary than Bruno being burned at the stake, it deals with Christian interference with education, a contemporary issue, the minus is that the Darwin Day tends to cover that already and the Christians didn’t murder anyone.

Also, perhaps we need something more contemporary. Maybe something that gets more global interest so we have perhaps an Internation Christians Shut the Fuck Up Day.
It needs to be a day where we don’t compete for news coverage and people are paying attention to other news, and also it doesn’t get mixed in with some other issue.
So Election Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day, and other national holidays are out. People would resent it also.
I don’t want to compete with another important holiday, such as Martin Luther King’s Birthday.
It needs to a be a fixed date in the calendar and not like Easter or Presidents day.
I think it should be a day when historically something happened illustrative of some Christian horror.
Also, I want something people can connect to.
So I shared the question out to many atheist Facebook groups to get input.
With the dates we don’t use, we can issue a calendar of Christian atrocities.
Feedback from Facebook groups.
I read every response.
So “Everyday” was the overwhelming response, with some variants, “Days ending with a ‘y’,” and other things which were equivalent making up about 99%.
Of course we want them to shut up everyday, but we are proposing a, “Christians Shut The Fuck Up Day,” and not “Today.” Like other days, like Earth Day, etc., we are proposing a behavior change for them for the entire year for the forseable future.
Sunday was mentioned, but this whole effort relies on focusing on an annual day, and I didn’t ask for a weekly event, and no one has ever done a weekly thing.
However, these responses told me people are really fed up.
REALLY FED UP.
What the many, many “everyday” suggestions tells me, is that there is a tremendous amount of feeling over this and support for the idea.
So it is time for me to prioritize this effort.
The responses also tell me I wasn’t really clear about what I was looking for.
So I am writing this post.
Some of the suggestions with Christopher Hitchens’ birthday. Okay, but it is about a single persons birthday and makes the day linked to one person, and we are in the business of deciding he is a hero, and he the most important person. I don’t want to get into that.
Christmas came up a lot. Well about 10 times. I understand the feeling, but I think that a lot of non-religious people celebrate Christmas, alcohol, sugar, overeating and shopping, and we would come across negatively. It is a winning combination which proves to be popular even with non-Christians.
There is no great historical crime associated with Dec. 25th. We are not raising the issue that they are obnoxious, but presenting ourselves as obnoxious. We are also competing with lots of Christmas news. Retail merchants will hate us.
For some suggestions I asked for an explanation to better understand why they suggested that and how they thought it would work, but I got “It’s obvious.” Not very helpful.
Next Step
I am going to share this post on Facebook and hopefully, with people understaning better the goal we get a better selection of dates to choose from.
If I don’t get much input, I am going to think of some things over the next week or two and then send out a post with specific dates selected with reasons for their selection.
Put your ideas in the comments.
