It is some dystopian future where Earth has collided with Hell. There are creatures appearing which they call Daemons. They are subject to extermination, but it isn’t clear that they are actually harmful. Humans oppress some of them.

The story of the persecution of the boy and the daemon starts with a nun in a black robe going to the boy’s house and confronting his mother and him about having a daemon and that it is a sin. She sounds like an Evangelical scolding Christian, though what religion she is a member of isn’t mentioned.

In Thailand and elsewhere Christian missionaries often denounce the local religion as the worship of demons. I am sure the producers of the show are aware of this. Christian missionaries in these nations have been loud and obnoxious for generations.
Thai LGBT are very aware of the hostility of Christianity towards them, and surely the producers of My Daemon know also.
Thailand has steadily resisted Christian missionary efforts for generations. Whatever you may think of the Thai composite religion, it doesn’t want to persecute Gays or others.
We have a theme here about tolerance and intolerance and irrational religious hatred for minorities in general, and though it isn’t explicitly stated, this is about the intolerance and irrational religous hatred of Christians.
Also, the protagonist has a daemon particle in his head which makes him different. It is believed to be ultimately fatal to the child.
When Christians somewhere start denouncing Gays, people who have watched this show will remember this show and think of the hating nun in black.
